Senior UI Designer / Art Director
Helps you settle in faster, plan what’s next, and connect with the right people wherever you go.
Context
NomadMode AI explores how artificial intelligence can support digital nomads in making complex lifestyle decisions, from choosing destinations to planning long-term travel in a more adaptive and structured way.
Living as a digital nomad means constantly adapting to new environments
Each destination comes with different needs, priorities, and decisions. The identity reflects this flexibility, with a logo that adapts to different locations and sets the tone for a product designed to move with its users.
Problems
Planning requires navigating scattered tools, unreliable information, and constantly changing variables without a clear system to guide decisions. Most tools solve one part of the journey. None connect the full experience.
Starting from zero in every new city
Every time nomads arrive somewhere new, they need to rebuild their routine from scratch, from understanding the area to finding essential services and places to go.
Slow and fragmented settling process
Simple tasks like managing time zones, handling money, or finding things to do require jumping between multiple tools, slowing down the process of feeling settled.
Difficult to meet the right people
Connecting with other nomads or locals often depends on luck or scattered platforms, making it hard to build meaningful connections quickly.
No personalized guidance
Most tools provide generic information, but don’t adapt to individual needs, leaving users to interpret data and make complex decisions on their own.
Challenge
How might we bring planning, local context, and human connection into one cohesive experience without overwhelming the user?
Approach
Rather than combining everything into one dashboard, NomadMode is structured around two core moments: Home and Travel. Home supports what’s happening now by helping users stay in sync, explore locally, and meet people. Travel focuses on what’s next by supporting trip planning, logistics, and preparation for the next destination. This separation keeps the experience simple and reduces cognitive load.
To ensure consistency across a complex system, I defined a set of principles to guide design decisions.
1. Designing for a life that is constantly changing
To support a lifestyle defined by movement, the product was guided by a set of principles focused on adaptability, clarity, and decision-making.
2. Design for context, not just features
Each destination comes with different needs. The product adapts to the user’s current situation, helping them navigate both familiar and new environments.
3. Reduce cognitive load
Separate present and future contexts to avoid overwhelming users, allowing them to focus on what matters in the moment.
4. Support decision-making
Go beyond discovery by helping users evaluate options and make confident choices based on their priorities.
5. Balance automation with control
Use AI to guide and assist, while keeping users in control of their decisions and actions.
It brings together everything users need to quickly feel established in a new place, including local context, daily utilities, and nearby people.
Instead of forcing users to rely on multiple apps, Home centralizes essential information into a single, flexible space. This reduces friction and helps users build a routine faster when arriving somewhere new.
It centralizes everything related to upcoming trips, including flights, accommodation, visas, and important documents.
By separating planning from daily life, users can focus on future decisions without cluttering their current experience. This creates a clearer mental model and makes complex travel logistics easier to manage.
The assistant helps users make better decisions by understanding their context. For example, when scheduling across time zones, it surfaces relevant information and suggests better alternatives.
It expands into a full-screen experience when tasks become more complex, allowing deeper interaction without overloading the main interface.
For more complex needs, such as taxes or insurance, the assistant connects users with relevant services and partners, bridging the gap between information and action.
The assistant also supports travel planning by helping users search, compare, and book their next destination in a guided way.
Ecosystem
NomadMode is designed as a modular platform where new tools can be added over time. Small apps can be integrated directly into the dashboard, while the community helps shape the roadmap by voting on what should come next.
